Orissa Tourism has developed in a dramatic manner in the past few decades with the beaches, waterfalls, temples, wildlife reserves shooting into limelight. Tourists from all over the world book a trip to Orissa for its rich historic lineage, dating back to approximately 2000 years. What makes Orissa different is its distinct culture and heritage which is starkly different from the North and Eastern States of India. In the past, Orissa which was known as Kalinga was an important part of the trading route and controlled the commercial activities across the Bay of Bengal, especially of the South and South East Asian countries.

In addition, it is also known that the beaches, cascading waterfalls and serpentine rivers in Orissa along with the much revered temples, make it a delight. Thus, after knowing so much about this Eastern State, it was definitely difficult to not book the trip to Orissa when exploring India.

So, we geared up for the tour of exploring Orissa and started with the Konark Sun Temple. We were quite thrilled to experience walking within the space of this 13th century sun temple. The entire architecture of the temple is in the form of a grand chariot, with elaborate walls, stone wheels and pillars. Its importance was further enhanced with it getting entry into the list of UNESCO world heritage sites. It was quite captivating to find that this temple had been constructed for the Sun God, which in subtle terms, also made us quite spiritual in its own way.

Continuing with our chosen destinations from the Orissa Travel Packages, we chose to discover the beauty of the Chilka Lake. We had heard that this brackish water lagoon is a favourite for the aviphiles. And in reality, it did turn out to be the wintering ground for a divergent migratory birds. Finding the large fishery resource in the ecosystem of the Chilka lake. Then to taste the beauty of sun-kissed beaches of Orissa, we moved towards the Puri Beach which is known for its sacred religious importance as well as being a touristy hotspot. Every year, the Puri Beach festival attracts several visitors with the sand art displays being of enormous importance.

Further exploring the enigma of Orissa Tourism, we travelled to other religious temples, zoological parks, Orissa State Museum, Qadam-I-Rasool and Jagannath Temple. Out of the other must see areas, we could travel to Lingaraj Temple, Mukteswara Temple, Udaigiri & Khandagiri Caves. In hindsight, one of the other reasons why a trip to Orissa has become so well sought is due to the easy accessibility to Bhubneshwar through flights. Thus, one must travel to Orissa and explore its beautiful cultural and historical heritage.
